WWII Royal Naval & St Johns Ambulance Medal Group – Item 92868
Excellent group of Eight Royal Naval & St Johns Ambulance Service Medals awarded to F Thompson, S.B.P.O. R.N.H Haslar. Medal group consists of St Johns Ambulance Long Service Medal, 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with clasp North Africa 42-43, Burma Star with Pacific clasp, Italian Star, Defence Medal and 1939-45 War Medal. Elizabeth 2nd Royal Navy Good Conduct Medal and Order of St John Medal. Accompanied with his miniature medals on bar for wear on dress uniform. Admiralty forwarding slip and hall marked silver St Johns Ambulance medal engraved to reverse “448764 Frank Thompson”. with year bars all engraved and mounted on chain.
Petty Officer Frank Thompson served on the Royal Naval Hospital Haslar in Portsmouth. The hospital established the country’s first blood band and was responsible for treating casualties from the Normandy landings. An interesting grouping.
