Third Reich SS Brigadefuhrer Zehender August framed Sketch – Item 102510

Interesting bakelite (imitating ivory) picture frame with period pencil sketch of SS Brigadefuhrer and General Major of the Waffen SS Zehender August. This interesting frame measures 23 x 18cm with sketch of August in uniform wearing his Knights cross with oakleaves. Reverse of frame marked with his death 11.2.1945. Around the frame decorated with various Nordic badges. Sold with photocopy history of his career.

Note: Zehender August saw service in the Polish campaign in September 1939. In 1943 he was a commanding officer of the 2nd SS Cavalry Regiment Florian Geyer Division. Zehender was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross and also honoured with the oakleaves and thus becoming the 722nd recipient. He was killed in action seven days later in Budapest where he was Commander of the Maria Theresia Division, which was made up of Hungarian Volunteers. It was deployed in fighting around Budapest in early 1945. When only 790 men of the 70,000 who left the city reached German lines.
