Large silver plated round Luftwaffe salver. Measuring 35cm in diameter. Front engraved with early style droop tail Luftwaffe eagle and swastika and marked “Third Reich Die Offiziere Beamten U.Jngenieure des Fliegerhorstes rotenburg “(The officers, officials and engineers of the Rotenburg air base).
Overall good for age. an Impressive veteran bring back souvenir from the Officers Mess.
Note: History: construction began in 1936 and the first Luftwaffe occupants arrived 30 January 1937, but there were no flying units based there until after the war began. From mid-1940 to late 1943, Rotenburg was relatively inactive aside from the work of the Flak depot located there. In 1944 it became busy once again, this time as a fighter base.
