Third Reich Gau Essen Badge for 1935 – Item 106769

Small gilt Gau badge for Essen. Gilt grade with crossed hammers and dates 1925. The foundation of the Gau and 1935 the date of the introduction of the badge. Complete with its pin back fixing. Jewelers example. Retains much original gilt finish. Similar example shown on Pg 79 of Orders and Decorations, Medals and badges of the Third Reich by Littlejohn and Dodkins.

Note: For the purpose of party administration Nazi Germany was divided into a number of Party districts or Gaue and each under a Gauleiter. Several of these Gaue issued commemorative badges.
