Third Reich Free City of Danzig Flak Badge – Item 88919

Scarce and seldom found Free City of Danzig flak badge. Shows early droop tail Luftwaffe eagle above 88 Flak guns. White metal nicely toned. Slender pin back fixing to reverse.

Note:  The city of Danzig and its surrounds some 729 miles of territory was removed from Germany by the treaty of Versailles and was placed under the Leagues of Nations as a free city.  German nationalists and the pro Nazi movement inside the territory gradually gained strength until in June 1933 Danzig had a Nazi dominated government. The free city closely models itself on Hitler’s Germany and the German decorations created during this time are patterned on those of the German Reich.
