RAF Battle of Britain Casualty ID disc and Research – Item 94854
Interesting RAF casualty ID disc. Disc made of red fibre construction and stamped “IR STEPHENSON RAF PRES”. This belonged to Wing Commander Ian Raitt Stephenson who saw action during the Battle of Britain with No 264 Squadron. Amongst his paperwork included with this lot is an extract that details an incident when he was injured bailing out of his Defiant off of Herne Bay on 26.8.1940. His gunner Sergeant W Maxwell was killed in the incident. They had been attacked by a German BF109. Wing Commander Stephenson was killed when serving in Malta when serving with 153 Squadron on 26.11.1943. Sold along with some research paperwork and a 1940s Air Ministry publication about the Battle of Britain.
