Third Reich Schlageter Memorial Badge – Item 105597

Rare Third Reich Type 1 Schlageter Memorial Badge. Complete with pin back fixing and measuring 6cm  x 5cm approx. Paul Kust maker marked to reverse and complete with pin fixing. Shown on Pg 20 of Military Awards of the Third Reich by Ltc Angolia.

Note: Schlageter joined the Nazi Party and actively engaged in sabotage against the French. He was captured by the French for blowing up a bridge. Found guilty and executed by firing squad on the 26 May 1923. The Nazis effectively used his death as a rallying cry. Schlageter became a German Hero and Nazi martyr overnight. Ten years after his death the Nazis erected a monument in his honour near Dusseldorf. In 1933 this badge was created in his honour and was issued to various members of the Freikorps wh0 could prove honourable service.
