Third Reich Meissen U Boat Presentation Plate – Item 108839

Interesting white porcelain Meissen manufactured U boat commemoration plate. Measures 24.5 cm in diameter. Decorated with oak leaves and Knight Cross and Imperial and Third Reich War Badges. Blue decoration on white background. Marked to reverse with Meissen crossed swords manufacturers mark. These plates produced by Meissen for the Association of German WWI Sub Mariners to give to their younger WWII U Boat Captains on the Award of Oak leaves to the Knights Cross. Only 81 of these plates were ever issued. The other 10 were not awarded because the U boat skippers had been killed before their entitlement to the oak leaves award could be confirmed.  Good condition and sold with some typed research of how this one came into the owners possession.
