Third Reich German U Boat (U30) Commemorative Plaque – Item 109848

Interesting wood and metal plaque awarded to Fritz Julius Lemp on 14.8.1940. Possibly awarded when the U Boat was retired from service. Made from pieces from the vessel and his cap eagle.  Measures 12cm x 14cm. Green felt backing. Overall in good condition with only minor mothing now to back cloth.

Note:  She was retired from front-line service in September 1940 after undertaking eight war patrols, having sunk 17 vessels and damaging two others. U-30 then served in a training role until the end of the war when she was scuttled.
